Paws Rescue UK is entered onto The Register of Charities

Paws Rescue Qatar announces today that its UK operation, Paws Rescue UK, has achieved charitable status and has been entered onto The Register of Charities.  The UK-based Charity Commission stated that after deliberation they were satisfied that Paws Rescue UK was established for charitable purposes only for the public benefit.

Paws Rescue Qatar is an animal welfare organisation that was founded by Alison Caldwell and Emily Blenkinsop in 2013.  The not-for-profit now runs a purpose-built shelter in Mesaieed, Qatar, that can comfortably house up to 100 dogs and 120 cats.  These animals are stray or surrendered pets that are rehabilitated and then rehomed either locally or overseas.

Paws Rescue Qatar set up its UK arm of Paws Rescue in 2017, when they felt they needed more control over the rehoming process of their animals there, and also felt they could contribute more in the UK itself, where both Blenkinsop and Caldwell were raised.

“We couldn’t be more pleased with the outcome of our application for charitable status,” says Alison Caldwell. “We have struggled enormously over the past year with the loss of our main sponsor here in Qatar and have had to rely solely on the generosity of our supporters. It has proven very difficult to secure help from other organisations, even where they have wanted to, but now we are partnered with a legitimately registered charity they will be better placed to support us.

Paws Rescue Qatar is the only not-for-profit animal shelter operating in Qatar that is affiliated with a recognised charity.

In November 2017 Paws Rescue Qatar was honoured in Qatar for their charitable work when they were presented with the 3rdAnnual QBBF (Qatar British Business Foundation) award for Work in the Community by HRH Sophie, Countess of Wessex.
