About Paws Rescue Qatar
A volunteer ran group providing safe haven for stray and abandoned animals in Qatar.
Paws Rescue Qatar is a non-profit animal shelter dedicated to providing a safe haven for homeless animals until they can be placed in responsible, loving homes. We rely on fundraisers, foster homes, volunteers and your donations to provide a safe home for all the animals in our care, and all the others soon to come.
Ten years ago, Paws Rescue Qatar was started by fundraising for a couple of injured stray dogs and cats that needed expensive medical treatment, then finding foster or forever homes for them once recovered. As numbers increased, a committee was formed with some dedicated volunteers who became more involved with the day-to-day running and development of our organisation. We initially started our on a small piece of land on private property, but within a year it was evident that the facility was outgrown by our needs.
Our next big task was to find land that is sufficient for our needs, and so we built a custom built shelter, which included three kennel blocks for dogs, four communal rooms for cats, a clinic, isolation, quarantine, and facility rooms. We relied on the public’s support for furnishing the shelter rooms and the running costs, from air conditioning units to beds for the animals, and so on.
A few years passed and unfortunately we had to return the land. As sad as it was, we had to significantly downsize and now run a much smaller cosy centre that houses our animals. Sponsors and support reduced greatly due to Covid and the FIFA World Cup, but we are still here doing the best we can for the animals that still very much need us.
